Clinton-Hill based kitchen in green and steel. Our spin on Scandinavian minimalism, informed by exposed structure, raw elements, and Donald Judd’s color blocking and material purity. When our client first purchased their duplex, they knew they wanted to open the space as much as possible. Unfortunately, a giant partition divided the kitchen and common areas, which made their home feel tight and hard to maneuver. We knew we wanted to knock down the wall, so when we started taking it down, we were surprised to find a hidden element: a giant X beam. Since the X beam was structural, we had to integrate it into our design. Sometimes hurdles like these can produce the most unexpectedly pleasant and unique surprises. In our case, we used the obstacle as inspiration for our design.
