about

Erica Sellers is a New York–based designer and artist whose work merges historical and futuristic aesthetics with a distinctly subversive sensibility, spanning objects, interiors, and furniture. In 2020, she co-founded Studio S II, transforming her Ridgewood townhouse into the House of S II: a living archive, exhibition space, and cinematic showroom where collectible design intersects with art, performance, and community.

‍

Sellers has designed major international exhibitions for a number of contemporary artists, including two editions of the Venice Biennale (55th and 57th), Prospect.3 in New Orleans (2013), the Carnegie International (2017), and SFMOMA (2018), and appeared as a competitor on Ellen's Next Great Designer (HBO Max, 2021). The New York Times has spotlighted the House of S II for its singularity, and Studio S II's cinematic, sculptural furniture continues to earn acclaim for its visionary approach.

‍

Recognized by Dwell as one of its Top 24 Emerging Designers, Sellers was named to Wallpaper's prestigious USA 400, honoring the creatives shaping America's future, in 2024, 2025, and 2026, cementing her place at the forefront of contemporary design. Her studio has also received support from the Queens Arts Fund (2024), NYS Seed Funding (2023), and City Artist Corps (2022).

‍

Sellers' practice extends to curation and exhibition design for platforms including the Collectible Design Fair and NYCxDesign's SHELTER, as well as the annual Design Dysphoria exhibition, a queer design collective she co-curates with Grace Whiteside and Liz Collins, internationally celebrated as a platform for today's most compelling and cutting-edge queer design voices.

‍

A born-and-bred New Yorker raised by two immigrant parents, Erica brings that same restless, subversive energy from the studio into everything else she touches. She's an avid motorcyclist who treats the city streets like her own design problem, a snowboarder chasing the same adrenaline off the mountain that she chases in the studio, and most recently a newbie DJ, learning how sound can shape a room the way furniture does. Always experimenting with new materials and mediums, Erica is deeply embedded in New York's underground rave scene, where she sits on the Design Board of the Queer Nightlife Community Center — not just showing up to the party, but helping build the room it happens in.
