When the client acquired a penthouse in one of Boerum Hill's most architecturally ambitious new buildings, designed by the boundary-pushing firm SO-IL, they turned to Studio S II to bring their interior vision to life. The result is a saturated, sensorial interior that softens and provokes the building's austere concrete frame, turning brutalism into something unexpectedly intimate.
The building's structural language is uncompromising: raw concrete ceilings, prismatic apertures, and an otherworldly courtyard that floods the interiors with diffused light. Rather than soften or obscure these conditions, Studio S II leaned into them, letting the architecture set the terms while layering in warmth, texture, and a collector's eye for objects with genuine weight.
Venetian plaster unifies the home, applied across a carefully calibrated tonal range that shifts room to room. The palette opens in the living and dining areas with luminous cream walls, deepening gradually through the private rooms, and arriving at an intimate charcoal in the powder room. In the bedroom, a rich burgundy envelops the walls, transforming the space into a sanctuary.
